SEANF Holds 7th Annual Meeting in KL PDF Cetak E-mail

The South East Asia National Human Rights Institutions Forum (SEANF) will hold its 7th annual meeting at the Seri Pacific Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 15-16 November 2010 with the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) as chair.

The SEANF leaders and officials will convene to discuss further its future following the establishment of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) as well as its position as a body in the region and as individual NHRIs in their respective countries. Further plans and programs shall also be discussed during the said meeting.

 
CHRP to hold Orientation on AHRB PDF Cetak E-mail

On the occasion of the 22nd founding anniversary of the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines (CHRP) on 5 May 2009, there will be an Orientation on the ASEAN Human Rights Body (AHRB) to be held at the CHRP Conference Room at around 9:30 in the morning. This activity shall enhance the capacity and knowledge of CHRP staff on the powers, functions, and impact of the highly anticipated AHRB.

Former Senator and Chairperson of the Philippine Working Group, Wigberto E. Tañada, has been invited to grace the said event to provide an overview of the AHRB.

This orientation is one of the efforts of the CHRP on the popularization of the AHRB. Other members of the ASEAN NHRI Forum are conducting similar activities as well to show their support and make the AHRB publicly known in their respective countries.

 
FGD on Developing ANF's Protocol on Anti-Trafficking PDF Cetak E-mail

As lead NHRI in the joint project of the ASEAN NHRI Forum on developing a protocol against trafficking of women and children, the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines shall conduct a focus group discussion (FGD) on 7 May 2009 at the Commission's Conference Room.

The project team shall invite experts on anti-trafficking to provide more insights on this prevalent human rights issue in ASEAN. The inputs gathered shall assist the team in the conduct of a national workshop on 21-22 May 2009 in Ortigas, Pasig City where there will be a more in-depth discussion on this matter.

The NHRIs of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand shall likewise conduct their respective national workshops soon prior to a regional workshop in September 2009 in Manila, Philippines.

 
Training Workshop on NHRIs and International HR System PDF Cetak E-mail

There will be a training workshop entitled, "Sub-Regional Training Workshop on National Human Rights Institutions and the International Human Rights System," on 20-24 April 2009 in Manila, Philippines. This workshop is being organized by the Asia Pacific Forum (APF) of National Human Rights Institutions, in cooperation with the Philippine Commission on Human Rights as host institution, and with funding support from the European Commission.

This workshop will serve as an introductory course for new staff members working in areas where knowledge of the international human rights system is beneficial as well as for staff members who have not previously attended training on international human rights system.

Participants of the said workshop include the four ASEAN NHRIs and Timor Leste.

ASEAN NHRI Forum Website Launching in the Philippines PDF Cetak E-mail

The ASEAN NHRI Forum website will be officially launched in the Philippines on 16 March 2009 at three o'clock in the afternoon.

Ambassador Alistair B. MacDonald from the Delegation of the European Commission in the Philippines is the guest of honor on this event.  Representatives from the Regional Working Group for the Establishment of an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism, United Nations Development Programme, ASEAN Secretariat, Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, and others are among the invited guests to grace the said launching.
