ANF 6th Annual Meeting slated for Nov. 11-13, 2009 at Santika Premiere Jogja Hotel, Yogyakarta, Indonesia PDF Print E-mail

The ASEAN National Human Rights Institutions Forum (ANF) will be holding its "6th Annual Meeting" from November 11-November 13, 2009 at Santika Premiere Jogja Hotel, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

As current chair of the ANF, the Indonesian National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) will host the annual activity. Expected to attend are delegations from the human rights commissions of Indonesia (Komnas HAM), Malaysia (Suhakam), Thailand (National Human Rights Commission of Thailand) and the Philippines (Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines).

The three-day ANF program is as follows:

Day 1 - 11 Nov 2009 - Business Meeting (Closed to the public)
Day 2 - 12 Nov 2009 - Open Session with Stakeholders
Day 3 - 13 Nov 2009 - Conclusions and Media Release (Open to the Public)

Up for discussion during the regular business meeting are ANF's organization, ongoing joint projects and future engagements with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), other ASEAN human rights bodies, and relations with donors and stakeholders. For the second day, ANF has invited representatives from the AICHR, European Commission, United Nations Development Programme, civil society organizations and other partners. Representatives from Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam have also been invited to talk about their efforts in establishing an independent NRHI. A press conference is scheduled on the third for the media.

A formal welcome dinner on November 11, 2009 will be tendered by Komnas Chair Ifdhal Kasim and Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, The Tenth King of Yogyakarta, Governor and King of Yogyakarta.

ANF Bats for an Independent ASEAN Human Rights Commission PDF Print E-mail

9th Meeting (Kuala Lumpur)The ASEAN NHRI Forum (ANF) reiterated its position on the establishment of an ASEAN Human Rights Commission that is independent, deliberative, and inter-governmental body.

The ASEAN NHRI Forum presented its consolidated position paper on the Terms of Reference (TOR) of ASEAN Human Rights Body (AHRB) at the Consultation Meeting of the High Level Panel on the TOR of the AHRB last 20 March 2009 at the JW Marriot Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Prior to the consultation, the representatives of the ASEAN NHRI Forum had a meeting at the Melia Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to consolidate the positions of the four human rights Institutions for presentation at the HLP Meeting.

The ASEAN NHRI Forum also urged the HLP to disseminate an official copy of the TOR of the AHRB.

 
ANF to hold 3rd TWG in Jakarta, Indonesia PDF Print E-mail

The ASEAN NHRI Forum (ANF) will hold its 3rd Technical Working Group Meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia on 16-17 June 2009. As this year's Chairman of the ANF, Komnas HAM is the host of said meeting.

This meeting shall bring in together once again the project focal persons of each NHRI to discuss the updates in implementing the joint projects under the Framework of Cooperation. Moreover, preparations for the 6th Annual Consultative Meeting shall also be discussed by the technical staff as it will be held sometime in November this year in Indonesia.

 
Website Launching in the Philippines a Success PDF Print E-mail

The ASEAN NHRI Forum website was successfully launched in the Philippines on 16 March 2009 at the Conference Room of the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines (CHRP). Ambassador Alistair B. MacDonald of the Delegation of the European Commission to the Philippines graced the event with an inspiring message. CHRP Chairperson Leila M. De Lima stressed the importance of information technology in the institutionalization of a collaborative mechanism among the four existing NHRIs in ASEAN - Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand.
