ASEAN NHRIs Vision of an ASEAN Human Rights Body |

The Human Rights Commissions of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand expressed their vision of an ASEAN Human Rights Body (AHRB) during their consultation at the 3rd Meeting of the High Level Panel on the Drafting of the Terms of Reference (TOR) of an AHRB on 10-11 September 2008 in Manila, Philippines.
On behalf of the ASEAN NHRI Forum, Commissioner Lady Ambhorn Meesook of the NHRC of Thailand discussed the position paper prior to its submission for consideration of the HLP. In their position paper, the four Commissions used the evolutionary approach in which they stressed on the principles and/or mandates without colliding with the TOR of the proposed AHRB. Lady Meesook concluded her presentation with a declaration that the four NHRIs in ASEAN are very willing and ready to work with the HLP in drafting the TOR for an AHRB.
